6:30 – a glass of water
7:00 – two slices of whole wheat bread (each 110 calories) and two spreads of peanut butter (organic ones from Whole Food market)
12:00 – two cups of cereal and an apple
5:00 – a bar of tofu, a banana, and 15 pieces of watermelon
I run around 3-4 miles a day everyday.
I am 5’11 and I weight 140 lbs
I’m 5’2” and 148 lbs, trying to get down to 135. This is an example of what I eat. I am exercising as well (actually I’m kind of just starting to kick it up and actually do what I need to do…)
Breakfast: 1 cup cereal (usually apple jacks, I looked on the box and it actually isn’t bad, only 120 cals and not much sugar) with 2% milk (I think, but my family doesn’t drink milk and neither do I, so I just eat the cereal and none of the milk) Maybe some fruit (don’t eat enough of it). I don’t eat much breakfast.
Lunch: sandwich- 2 slices weight watchers whole wheat/grain (not sure) bread (100 calories or something for 2 slices!) turkey, 1 slice cheese (the aged, good kind not filled with preservatives), a little bit of mayo or mustard (like a pinch, not even a serving). Apple slices, a serving of pretzels (110 cals).
Snack: a banana or light&fit yogurt, probably banana (again I don’t eat enough fruit and bananas are good for you!)
Dinner: chicken breast without the skin, instant brown rice of some sort (like flavor, but not anything unhealthy), broccoli.
Snack (around 8 or 9 pm): light&fit yogurt or some fruit
I only drink water except for the occasional diet soda and sometimes 100% fruit juice, like organic apple juice. I love carbs and it’s a big part of my diet but that’s kind of unavoidable… my mom makes pasta a lot and I’m trying to get her to not make it so much ’cause the whole meal is like a plate of pasta and sauce.
Dairy is important especially since I only get it from when I do eat cheese. And some mayo isn’t going to kill me.
I do strength training with my personal trainer for an hour twice a week.
edit: oh yea yogurt is dairy too but it’s not bad to eat a slice of cheese on a sandwich! added calories. really. why do I care…? I’m not eating a lot of calories anyway!
i am trying to improve the way i eat by incorporating more whole
foods into my diet and choosing less processed foods.
i also have recently become very interested in organic food and have been eating some organic fruits, vegetables, and cereal.
i have found the prices are slightly higher and think the overall benefit is worth the money.
however at this time i don’t plan to go strictly organic and wonder
if incorporating a small amount of organic foods along with
other whole foods going to make that much of a difference.
what do you think?
I’m on the EXTREMELY low income scale, & I find that unhealthy foods are cheaper & more readily available than healthy foods, & organic healthy foods are eve MORE expensive. I’d like to change my diet & eat right because my life is on the line. My health is at risk.I seriously find myself living off of HotPockets, corn dogs, & cereal & occasional unhealthy snacks. After paying all my bills, like rent & utilities, I only have like for the month to stretch for food, & that’s not good. I receive SSI & Social Security & I’m disabled, & if I work, I’ll lose my medical benefits & insurance.
If I buy fruits & veggies alone, that would come up to like , & I just found out I’m anemic & my iron is low, so I was told I have to have meat & food from the breads & cereals group in my diet in order to increase my iron level.
Do you have any advice?
Right now, here is basically what my diet is…
Breakfast- Bowl of cereal (organic, high fiber) with 1% milk
Lunch- Usually don’t have lunch at school
Snack- At home, I’ll have an apple and banana or something like that
Dinner- Usually some kind of chicken or fish, brown rice, and a pack of vegatables
What should I add or cut down on? More protien, fiber, etc? Because right now I’m 15, 5’4", asnd 155 lbs and want to lose about 30 by June. I’m going to start running and riding my bike a lot, but just wanted a good idea of what I should fix in my diet for the best results. Thanks!
I’ve decided to cut out as much processed food as I possibly can from my diet but I need help finding alternatives to so much of the food I used to eat. It seems like everything is processed–cereal, dairy, everything! I’m going back to being a vegetarian so no meat but I love (organic) dairy.
Also I need quick HEALTHY food since I’m a busy college student. I really like nutrigrain bars etc
Also, where do you choose to buy your groceries?
