| He obviously does not know that sugar is in all formula and in all milk. The fact that the sugar in Organic Similac is from cane sugar and not corn syrup makes a world of difference. By feeding your child Organic milk you are keeping the fertilizers, pesticides, and antibiotics out of your child. FYI, ingredients in fertilizers and pesticides which are transferred to regular milk cows through eating the grass and in turn consummed by your child are CARCINOGENS. More importantly, your child will not ingest the antibiotics given to regular cows which lowers the affectiveness of antibiotics given to your child when he or she needs them. |
Check you local Sam's Club!!! and definitely buy Organic for babies/toddlers

Love this formula. Have also used Earth's Best Organic Soy with great success. I live in St. Louis and discovered the Similac Organic 30.8 oz cans for $19.87 at one Sam's, but not available at all Sam's. Have used this successfully for 4 months after exclusive breastfeeding for 6. Also used this on my first child with success. As far as the constipation issue, it's usually the switch that causes constipation or the extra iron in the milk (feel free to Google "milk formula constipation" to read from the experts). There is nothing in an Organic milk formula that would cause more constipation than regular formula.....it's more likely that the switch itself is the cause. As far as the extra cost goes, come on...it's a developing brain in a new life that you are impacting. Corn syrup (found in most formula) is typically made from geneticallhy altered corn and highly processed with sulfuric acid; the oils used are processed with hexane. And while I'm on my hippie soap box, it is known the food dyes and preservatives contribute to ADD in children, so why does Gerber include it in it's powdered Liquilyte (comparable to Pedialyte) and Tylenold uses red dye in its infant/children's cherry flavored oral formula? So, you use these products when your children are already physically compromised....is it necessary to include dyes and stick more chemicals in their systems? Do you think my ill 10 month old cares about what color the tylenol is? Check it out....too many parents just blindly shove anyting down their kids throats, not because they are not excellent, caring parents, but because there is a sense of "trust" with regard to major manufacturers. Sounds like most parents writing these reviews have done their research - be sure to do yours, too! :)
Thanks for taking the time to read this! Here's is some good info on ingredients in formula (not promoting this product, just providing a source of info... http://www.babyorganic.com/cart.php?page=why_buy_organic ) |

| I have done a ton of research on all organic formulas and have to say that this one,for my child, was the best. The first ingredient is Organic Milk, which means that it make up most of the product. The Organic sugar, from evaporated cane juice, happens to be the fourth ingredient. Most other organic brand name and organic private label organic formulas usually have lactose (milk sugar) as the first ingredient and the essential oils the second and the organic milk the third or fourth. That is what made the difference to me. For all of those freaking out about the sugar, you shouldn't. Organic lactose is sugar as well. Nutritionally speaking they are the same. The evaporated cane juice may digest slightly slower because it isn't processed as much but both are simple sugars...Remember too that all babies are different! Mine did great with this one but others have complained about constipation. That doesn't mean that this isn't a great product it just means that this product didn't work for them. It is worth a try. If your baby likes it, it is great choice for formula users. Good luck. |

| We switched from the regular Similac to Organic after reading research about harmful affects of bovine hormones on growing bodies. The price on the multipack is the same as the store, but the convenience of having it delivered to our home is great. It's nice to know that we always have more on hand and don't have to worry about running out any time soon. |

| My daughter has been on this formula since she was about 3 months (she's now 1 year). We love it, even though it is expensive, you have the lifelong payoff of not worrying about how much pesticide or antibiotic you've allowed them to ingest merely through formula. About the constipation, that's typically caused by a quick switch to formula, or a switch in formula type, NOT merely because the formula is organic. Every baby reacts differently to changing its food source all of a sudden. One teaspoon of prune juice in a single bottle a day can relieve the problem (or prevent it) without much of an event at all. |

Our twins were put on this food from about the first week after they were born. They are both now six months old and have had no constipation or reflux.
The only problem I have is that Amazon keeps raising the prices on this stuff. We buy by the case and the price has gone up $40 in the past 6 months for a case. I'm not sure if Similac is doing this or if Amazon is jacking up the price.
Bottomline, if you want the best for your baby, this is it, but be ready to pay for it. |

| My son has used this formula since coming home from the hospital. He's now 10 months. We never had any problems with constipation. Certain babies are more prone to those problems and need a good match with a formula. I really don't think it's the formula that causes the constipation people are talking about. This stuff mixes different than regular formula (seems more grainy) but my child never knew the difference. I found much better deals in stores and with coupons I got from calling Similac. |

We tried several products before settling on organic Similac. Regular Similac tasted worse and gave our child dry skin. In fact just a few days on regular Similac caused dry skin around the cheeks. Enfamil had a bad smell and taste.
Organic Similac fixed the dry skin and tasted a lot better. Plus you always have the satisfaction of having an organic product for your child. |

| Dilute the product with a little extra water (half or a whole ounce per 6oz bottle) and it will end or minimize the constipation issue. We are an organic family and this product is the only option that is affordable. We use nursery water (bottled) to prevent rash and just dilute it with a bit of extra water. Your kid will love it and you will be able to feed them without the hormones that are found in the cow's milk used in other formulas. |

I would recommend this product to anyone who wants only the best ingredients for their child. |

| I've checked the labels of all the organic formulas that I could find, and tried several of them. This is the only one that I found that lists organic milk as its #1 ingredient. Do your homework and see for yourself. It also does not contain corn syrup (there is at least one organic formula which lists corn syrup as its #1 ingredient). It does not mix as well as some non-organic formulas, but I'd rather do a little extra heating and shaking to mix rather than have additional chemicals that would make it more soluble. We've used this with my 1 year-old for months and she is thriving. |

Breastmilk has sugar in it, it is why a lot of breastfed babies will refuse formula supplementing. Similic is a godsend for me as I can never feed exclusive breastmilk, I must supplement at least 2 oz. formula after each breastfeeding, even with pumping. We only drink organic milk b/c my husband is allergic to the pesticide they put in the feed of the cows and breaks out in a horrible rash when he drinks nonorganic milk, so for our baby we would not use any formula besides organic. That being said my son would not drink Earth's Best as it is not sweet like my milk is sweet, when we found Similac organic it was such a blessing as he finally would drink it no problem. Similac has put a lot of effort into helping Moms who cannot breastfeed, they listened and developed a product that tastes most like Moms milk. My son is 3 now and has no cavities at all.
We will use nothing else for baby girl coming soon and I came here to make sure I had some ordered this time before hand, I love the convenience of having formula, diapers and wipes delivered right to the door each month! |

| My almost 6-month old baby girl has been on several formulas from Regular Enfamil, to Nutrimigen, to Soy, to Enfamil AR (thickened with rice starch for reflux) and even though the Enfamil AR helped her spit up tremendously, I had a plan to switch her to Organic at the 6 month mark, since I was worried about all of the constipation reviews. All over Latin America and South America, when babies have colic, tummy aches, reflux, constipation, etc., they give them chamomille tea (manzanilla or camomila), I bought an organic chamonille tea and every time she has a little problem, I give her an ounce or two in between meals, about once or twice a day, and problem solved. I have noticed with this Organic formula that she does have different vowel movements, she's been through 2-25oz. cans already, and the bowel movements are still a lot more frequent (from once or twice a day to every time she eats!), and the bm is a lot darker and I feel that her tummy bothers her at times, but I am allowing for her body to get used to digesting this different formula, while giving her gripe water or chamomile tea, and it immediately relieves her symptoms. Her spit up and mild reflux is actually 75-80% less frequent than on ANY other formula she has been on! Recommended! |

| I think all those people who have constipated babies from this formula are either nuts or on the wrong formula. For example, if your pediatrician has put your baby on Similac Isomil Advance you cannot just switch to Similac Organic. They are two very different formulas. ALWAYS consult your doctor before changing formula. FYI, the Similac Organic is exactly the same formula as the Similac Advance but without synthetically compounded fertilizers, pesticides, herbicides, hormones, medicated feed, antibiotics or chemicals in the milk. If you have switched your baby from Similac Advance to the Organic (with your doc's blessing) and he/she is constipated, try giving him/her more water throughout the day (if 4 to 6 months of age). And don't dilute the formula...there are measurements on the back of the can for a reason. Prune juice is ok but water really is key. So if you must use the prune or any juice, dilute by equal parts (a bottle/sippy cup of half juice and half water). |

| My son was exclusively breastfed for 4 months, then I had to go back to work. Finding a formula that he would actually eat in any significant amount was a nightmare. We tried everything until one day I saw Similac Organic at the grocery store and figured it couldn't hurt to try! He went from eating only a few ounces of a bottle to chugging down the whole thing. I've tried it (I figure I need to try a taste of what he's eating) - it definitely tastes sweeter than the other formulas out there, but that also helps mask that heavy metal taste that some of them have. We've been using this formula for about 6 months now and haven't had any real problems with constipation, and anything that helps my little guy each is a good thing! I highly recommend it, but definitely shop around because there are cheaper places you can find this brand. And to reiterate what another reviewer said - all formulas have sugar in them. |

| This is a great formula. I was nervous when we switched from breastfeeding to formula, but my daughter never had any problems that normally could be associated with formula. I think the less additives you have, the better. Starting out with Organic means no GMO's, no antibiotics or growth hormones in the milk they used, etc... We moved to China and (thankfully) I order it on Amazon and have my husband carry it back when he goes for a visit to work. The cost is much better on Amazon than anywhere I found when living in the US and having it shipped to my door as a new mom was fantastic ( I also ordered the Seventh Generation diaper and wipes!) Ahhh, the luxuries of home... |

| I just started my daughter on the Similac Organic this week after breastfeeding her for nearly 8 months. She doesn't mind the transition at all because she was already eating solids. She is constipated, but I am not concerned that its the formulas fault, she got constipated when I started her on solids too. I fixed that by mixing one of her bottles with prune juice once a day. Once she was regular I started giving her this formula and found that if I give her a bottle of apple juice once a day instead of the prune juice she goes just fine. I think any change in a baby's diet is going to make them constipated, and if not, lucky you! Changing her to formula was really hard for me to do, but this product makes me feel a lot better. |

| We have been feeding our son this formula since birth and he really likes it. If you look at the ingredients of most formula's Corn Syrup is the #1 ingerdient listed, but the #1 ingredient here is Cow's Milk...imagine that, milk is the #1 ingredient in baby formula! I also like the fact that they use evaporated cane juice as the sweetner rather than refined sugar and the DHA and RHA come from vegetable sources. |

| This formula sounds good, with all the right ingredients: organic products and the DHA and ARA,but when you mix it, it seems to separate. It has small particles that leave residue on the bottle. It just seems like it's not mixed with the water. Earth's Best Organic formula does not do that, but it has no DHA/ARA(I wish they did!). Not sure what's better. |
Have you ever tasted breast milk? It's much sweeter than this formula.

In response to the reviewer who thinks this formula is evil because "corporate greed" is driving some sort of plan to hook babies on sweeter formula, have you ever tasted breast milk? I have, and it's shockingly sweet - to my taste buds, much sweeter than this formula. Seems to me that if you are trying to make a formula that is most similar to breast milk, then you have to make it sweet. Don't think there's anything greedy or corporate about it - it's just a function of how mother nature made our sweet little babies.
My baby has been drinking both breast milk and this formula since she was about 2 months old, and she's never had digestive problems from it - she's now 6 months. I like that the primary ingredient is organic milk rather than high fructose corn syrup, which was listed first in most of the other powdered formulas I looked at. The only thing I don't like about this formula is that once you mix up a bottle with water, the concotion smells kind of foul. I suspect this might be true for powdered milks generally, but I took off a star because of this unappetizing quality. |

| I have used this formula for my son since he was one month old to supplement breastmilk. He tolerates it well and has never had any issue with it. It disolves easily and has all the required nutrients. I don't know much about the whole sugar debate going on in other reviews of this product, but I do know it's made from organic milk which has no growth hormones or pesticides. I don't feel like artificial growth hormones are needed in a baby's system, but I am not an over the top greenie, so it's good enough for me. I give it 4 starts because the price is $30 per can if you buy the six cans here, you can get it at the store for $28, but you shouldn't buy it without coupons from similac.com, which you can also buy on an auction site. Similac is coming out with a new can design, so many stores have this formula on closeout in the old can right now for several dollars off, combined with a coupon, and I have been getting it for about $18 per can, which is $12 cheaper than here. I think if you are interested in using this formula, it's worth shopping around for it. |

There's only one explanation of use of sucrose instead of lactose in this formula: 1) it must be cheaper than organic lactose (sugar derived from milk) 2) by it being sweeter than other options it helps to "hook" an infant on it.
Organic is the only way to go, so 3 stars for that (just the fact that they label it organic, meant that all other Similac formulas are not --> why in the earth would you ever consider to feed your newborn with a product made of pesticide/hormone/antibiotic laden ingredients is beyond me)
So, for now I'm switching from this product to something else, but i hope that one day Abbott will do the right thing. |

I thought I was doing the right thing by buying organic and thought Similac was a brand I could trust to be good for baby. That is, until I came across this NY Times article about the sugar they use... [...] Needless to say I'm switching to another brand.
From the article:
Parents may be buying [Similac Organic] because they believe that organic is healthier, but babies may have a reason of their own for preferring Similac Organic: it is significantly sweeter than other formulas. It is the only major brand of organic formula that is sweetened with cane sugar, or sucrose, which is much sweeter than sugars used in other formulas.
No health problems in babies have been associated with Similac Organic. But to pediatricians, there are risks in giving babies cane sugar: Sucrose can harm tooth enamel faster than other sugars; once babies get used to its sweeter taste, they might resist less sweet formulas or solid foods; and some studies suggest that they might overeat, leading to rapid weight gain in the first year, which is often a statistical predictor of childhood obesity. |

After a week, we moved to Earth's Best without a problem. One day I ran out of Earth's Best and tried him again on the Similac Organic and he woke up from his nap with bad gas and very uncomfortable. So now I have no doubts that it was this formula. After reading the reviews about the high sugar content, I'm wondering if that was the culprit. |

Gritty formula, Fussy child

| I wish I had read the reviews on this before picking it up at the grocery store - I had wrongfully assumed that the only thing that changed was using organic cow's milk. I was wrong. Our daughter has been having some evening colic, but now it happens at every mealtime since we switched to this formula. We feed her 70% breastmilk, and 30% formula. Since we switched from regular Similac to the organic version, she screams shortly after we start bottle feeding her, and it takes a half hour at least to get her to finish a bottle - she's still hungry but she just doesn't want it. She's also MUCH gassier since we switched. I knew there were going to be problems when I mixed up the first bottle and it was gritty, leaving a grainy residue all through the bottle (hard to get out of the nipples if it dries in there), and in the baby's mouth. Like another reviewer, I also tried several different temperatures - cold, room temp, warm, hot - nothing dissolved the grittiness. If that many solids are in her system, no wonder she's fussy and has digestive issues. I gave this product 2 stars because it does its job - nourishing the baby - but only barely because she won't take it easily and I wonder what she's NOT getting since it doesn't all dissolve. |

Yet some of the smaller 12.9 cans formula had "fishy" smell, I only found such "defect" when my baby refused to drink the milk. I have to discard some of the formula at the end. I am not sure if the smaller 12.9 oz cans were old stock (contrary to the newly marketed 23.2 oz-tub package) which generated the fishy smell. |

| We began feeding Similac Organic to our newborn soon after birth because that's one of the two products that the hospital offered us. When our infant was five days old and had flushed out the mirconium, we began having problems with hard, dry, infrequent stooling. This progressed to where our baby seemed to be having painful gas and was crying inconsolably. After doing some research and seeing that many people were having this problem, we consulted our pediatrician and switched to Similac Advance. Within a day of the transition, we started seeing more frequent stooling with a healthy consistency. We're happy with Similac Advance and would steer people away from Similac Organic. |

It does not mix well at all - we tried warm water, room temperature, boiled water cooled down but nothing works.
Contains sugar different than other formulas as other reviewers have pointed out.
Our baby started on Good start and was doing well. We wanted to switch to organic so we chose this formula. The only difference we saw was a MUCH more fussier baby and even crying inconsolably. We waited some more time and hard stools just progressed to hard pellets. Would NOT recommend this to anyone.
We are going back to Nestle Good Start and really wish they had an organic version of it.

| Our son came back with us from hospital feeding Similac Advanced, which was being used to supplement breast milk. We switched to organic Similac on day 7 and it immediately stopped stool for 15+hrs. His face got puffy from all the pressure he was applying. Next morning we had to run out to buy Similac Advanced and bowl movements started getting normal right away, though still not as regular as they were before the unfortunate experiment with the green can. Terrible that Similac continues to ship a product that is creating issues on so many infants and hasn't bothered to provide any warning! Wake up Similac, the experiment is over. Fix the problem or stop shipping an unacceptable product. It is scary for us parents to see our precious babies plugged up like this. |

| Try a sample before buying or get a small can. It caused constipation for our 1 month old. Now she is back on the regular Similac and she is fine. Since I like organic products, I am bummed it did not work for us. |
Sugar + maltodextrin vs. lactose

Contrary to what other posters have written, there IS a difference between sugar in this formula and other formulas. Most other formulas contain lactose. True, they're both sugars, but lactose is what's found in breast milk, is a more complex sugar, and generally takes longer for the body to break down (a generally good thing). We've switched to Earth's Best Organic, which contains only lactose. |

| our toddler and seven month old nursing baby both had a twice daily bottle of similac low iron formula which seemed to have a slightly laxative effect. Recently they both became constipated - it took us awhile to figure it out but we realized it was the switch to the organic formula - they are miserable on it. we went back and forth between organic formula and juice (can't find low-iron any longer) and it is definitely the formula. Too bad - we were so excited to go organic! |
Not the best organic choice -- constipation and ingredient problems

| We were very happy to try Similac Organic because it is essential to us to use an organic formula and it was great to find one that is widely available for a good price (here on Amazon and at Costco). My son started on Similac in the hospital and we switched to the organic version within two weeks. Very quickly his stool went from normal to being dry and coming out like round pellets. We also found that the consistency of the formula was grainy (when mixed from powder) and we didn't like how it mixed up. After researching the question of the type of sugar used in this formula and consulting with our pediatician, we swithed formulas. His doctors and I are concerned about the type of sweetener used in this formula, and in any case, this product was constipating for our baby. We now use Earth's Best organic formula and love it. It mixes up very well and within two days of switching to it, our son's stool is normal again. |
This is not quality organic

| I used Similac with my first two children (one full time formula, second as a supplement). I intended on using this organic formulation with my third, until I did more research. Similac chooses to use cheaper quality ingredients i.e cane sugar instead of lactose in this formula. It's the "cheap" way of making infant milk, although the product isn't cheap. Babies love it because it's loaded with extra, actual sugar instead of milk lactose similar to what is in breastmilk. Sadly, this formula is one of those scams by companies trying to get a piece of the green hype. Check out other brands instead. Earth's Best offers a better organic option for your child. |

| I was trying to provide the best, cleanest, most healthy diet for my newborn and thought that Similac's Organic formula was perfect for us. It wasn't an option when my first was born. However, I would warn anyone who tries it, it caused serious constipation for my baby and led to weeks and weeks of prune juice infused formula to clear it up. I don't think it's a coincidence bacuase other friends of mine have had the same issue with this formula. The old fashioned one is woking well so we're sticking with it. Who knows why?! |

| We bought an entire case of this formula but it caused severe constipation for my son. I am not sure if all organic formulas give this effect, figured I don't want to go through all of them to find out and used proven brand - my son hasn't had any issues with Enfamil Lipil. |

| The SECOND ingredient after milk in this new formula is sugar. I don't care how organic it is, I cannot believe Similac is trying to sneak this through. (Try their website -- you can't get the list of ingredients.) Not only did I throw out a full can, I am so angry at Abbot's idiocy I am switching back to Enfamil. I urge you not to fall victim to this brazen attempt to ride the organic wave while providing an inferior (unhealthy?!) product. |
