It matters more than the average consumer knows. Read up on the whole issue and why people should use "organic"… there is a lady in my town who speaks about this stuff. She’s very educated about it all. I heard her talk once and she explained what is bad about these things- soaps, self care products, cleaning products. I lot of them have chemicals that burn skin, burn the throat, cause liver/kidney/heart disease, brain tumors, chronic fatigue and different cancers. It’s no joke. Not many people are really educated about all the chemicals we use daily that are making us sick. See if you can find a Shaklee person in your town. THey sell organic cleaning stuff and they can also tell you what chemicals you use daily are harmful- pretty much all of them. Soap, shampoo and nail polish (along with MANY other things) used to have fermaladahyde in it and then it got removed but now there is another chemical in it that isn’t formaldehyde but releases formaldehyde into the body once it comes in contact with your skin. Disease causing chemicals are abundant in perfume as well. So all in all it’s best to use organic because simply for this fact: 50 years ago 1 in 250 people had asthma now 1 in 5 do, same for heart/liver/kidney disease. People can actually get environmentally induce leukemia. It’s happened to children. It’s all the same for food. You are eating genetically engineered foods everyday. You are eating extra hormones everyday. You are eating toxins everyday. This is why we are finding that more and more people are getting diseases and organ failures etc. I recently learned about all this and it’s disgusting and scary. I’m trying to go full organic but I was told that even if you do only certain things organic because of budget, that’s ok too. Those things are things you use often like beauty products, self care products, cleaning products and your favorite foods or foods you eat often. So things like makeup, lotion, shampoo, bodywash, deodorant, window cleaner, dishsoap, handsoap, dairy (milk, eggs, cheese, yogurt etc) and vegetable/fruit that you eat a lot of. This will at least help some if not a lot. Babies and small children are very susceptible to all of these things the more natural, the better!
***Jaanali’s mommy- that is a good plan but the toxins are actually IN the produce. They are infused, for lack of wording. The chemicals they use are in the soil and the water so the produce is grown WITH these chemicals. Also, they have been genetically manipulating produce to make it grow more abundantly and in different shapes. In turn you eat this genetically altering agent.
***Sheila F- lye is actually a really bad thing to use.

When did people start using organic stuff? A few years ago? We have been having healthy babies for centuries. This organic stuff is not necessary.

It is important to feed your child healthy food — If you eat only organic than sure go for it otherwise don’t bother. What is organic soap — as far as I know soap is make from a combination of lye and fat or oil. Use a mild soap and feed normal healthy food — homegrown if you can simply because veggies start losing nutrients as soon as they come out of the dirt or off the plant, and as unprocessed as possible but organic or not only matters as much as it matters to you.
Everyone has their own opinions but in the end it is your child and only your opinion counts.

Your kids will be fine without organics but organics are best. But just because something is organic doesnt mean that it is safe. You must use the same precautions as your would for their non organic counterparts.

Yes people have been having healthy babies for centuries but most things were very natural for most of that time.
the benefit of using organic products means that it is chemical free. It is made of 100% natual ingredients. no presertives, or chemicals to make a veg or fruit or animal to grow quicker and bigger.
but thousands of vey healthy people don’t use anything organic.

"When did people start using organic stuff? A few years ago?"
Once upon a time, everything was organic…then chemicals/fertilisers etc were invented…now everybody is realising that organic/natural stuff is better…it just costs about 3 times more than regular stuff, go figure.
If you can afford it, organic is better.

At first I’m not gonna lie I got a little obsessed with the whole organic thing I was just super paranoid (1st time mom) but then came a time when I realized that our whole foods market sucked and they had more conventional foods than organic for a way higher price than lets say HEB so what I ended up doing is buying this produce wash called FIT its natural but it removes a lot of the residue on the fruits and veggies and I had better peace of mind but I did read an article that had this list called the dirty dozen and it’s a list of fruits and veggies that they recommend to go organic on if possible because they are known for being loaded with pesticides so these I keep "O": peaches, apples, sweet bell peppers, celery, nectarines, strawberries, cherries, lettuce, imported grapes, pears, spinach, and potatoes. I got all this info from the march 2008 issue of babytalk I don’t know if you can look it up online but it has a ton of info about going green. Hope this helps.

It’s important to me to use as much organic food as possible when cooking for my family.
Organic means there are no chemical pesticides or herbicides used in growing produce. It also means in processed food that no chemical additives and preservatives are used. I am trying to keep my daughter away from that crap for at least until she’s a year old because the human digestive system just isn’t designed to digest these things. I don’t know enough about it to make completely informed decisions, but I know just enough that it makes me want to give my daughter organics as much as possible.
