After reading several of Bruce Fife's books (and they were wonderfully easy-to-read for the non-scientific type), I decided to give coconut oil a try to help with losing weight and getting my blood sugar under control. As a non-medication taking, recently diagnosed diabetic, I want to try whatever natural remedies I can find to stay off insulin and other diabetes meds, in addition to meds for cholesterol, etc. I tried taking a teaspoon or two with meals and a teaspoon btw meals and my blood sugar numbers were noticeably lower the same day. (Fife says the suggested dose is 3-4 tbs/day). The taste of this brand is fantastic, light and creamy with a delicious coconutty taste! I love coconut so I was able to eat it right from the jar, but I also tried it spread on a Wasa Crisp bread--WOW, what an easy way to get MCFAs into your diet! I will definitely be using this instead of any oils for all my cooking needs (except a little EVOO mixed together with this for salad dressing.) Also, I'm using on my skin and it feels really soft, plus you also get the internal benefits from using it on your skin! GREAT PRODUCT!

grea t product i have been searching for extra virgin organic coconut oil.And i couldnt find it anywhere.so i went to walmart and bought this bottle of blue magic coconut oil and i was happy.until i read the label,it had petrolatum in it. i harmful chemical that damages the hair and stops it from growing. i was so upset. so i found some organic virgin coconut oil and then decied to order it.i wish it would of costed a litle less but its okay.and guess what you can use this coconut oil in baking as a subsitute for butter, shortening, and margarine.you can also use it on your hair and skin.and you can take it daily for a dietary suplement. great product!
instant pedicure in a bottle

Review Date: January 13, 2009
Reviewer: T. Harris,
I purchased this after scouring onc of my favorite sites [...] about natural ways to deal with rough, dry, feet. I get biweekly pedicures but that gets expensive! One of the reviewers recommended applying coconut oil daily and you'll never have to worry about rough feet again. I have to honestly admit that she was right! I only get a pedicure for the pampering every couple of months no longer the necessity and because of the results I apply the coconut oil to my entire body after the bath and I can't believe the difference in my skin's texture. It's unbelievable. The only thing about this one is during the summer months you have to find a cool place in the house to keep this such as underneath the bathroom cabinet or in the linen closet because it will liquify. As a mattef of fact I keep it in my bedroom during showering so the steam from the shower won't won't liquify it because once it liquifies it will eventually reharden at room temperature but the consistency changes which to me also changes the chemical structure in it or something because it just doesn't moisturize the same afterwards. But I love, love, love this product. It's a must have. It's has a light, chocolate fragrance to it which is a plus.
BEST OIL FOR BAKING, FRYING, SKIN SOFTENER, OR RIGHT OUT OF THE JAR

After menopause, I developed high total cholesterol. Fortunately, only the "lousy" cholesterol (LDH) increased, with my "happy" number (HDL) staying at an impressive 90. Instead of taking the recommended "liptor, et al", and as a registered nurse who knows the awful side effects of such drugs, I opted to research all things diet related. After my studies, I have decided that our government and medical community has been either ignorant, at best, or complicit, at worst, in the great soybean growers maligning of the health benefits of this oil. There are a few good scientific books available through Amazon. I'm not due for another lipid test for at least a year. I will post an update here, good or bad outcome.

Whole Foods stopped carrying this brand. I tried their new 365 brand and had to spit it out --- TOTAL PLASTIC TASTE AND SMELL. This product is in a non-leaching plastic container and is incredibly pleasant tasting raw (only do that after eating anything sweetened with sugar or honey to prevent cavities), but unbelievably delicious in cooking. Last week I was in an interview and the lady turned and smiled stating she detected a "slight, delightful hint of just-baked cookies" coming from my direction. HAD TO BE THIS OIL I always pop a little in my mouth before going out!!!!!

Watch the medical statistics that will be coming out of the country of Jamaica in the next two to three years. The soybean inudstry has recently purchased all the coconut fields, torn down the trees, and planted soybeans!!!!! If the studies I am trusting in are correct, they will begin developing a high incidence of heart disease and strokes, almost unknown to them up until now!!!!!

I use this on my face in the evening. At first it seems really greasy, but after about 5 minutes it totally soaks in - doesn't leave any residue/stains on my pillowcase. I also use it on my lips. Definitely recommend :)
Great product for great price thanks All star health

I bought this product from the amazon vendor ALL STAR HEALTH and I must say it is just as described and got speedy shipment. This is great for my hair and skin. I've made Ice pops for my kid sister, her friends, and myself and they taste great. I am afro Caribbean with wavy hair opposed to super kinky hair but my hair gets really dry if I leave it out(wash n set style). But this is great for those using protective styling and for the swimmers like myself. It keeps my hair moist and doesn't weigh it down and my skin look great as well. People don't realize that the chlorine in our shower/water systems here in the states is very drying on our hair and bodies. I'm just glad I got a product that 100% natural and from a vendor who I can trust. I've been ripped off by buying hair products at walmart and supply stores. I live in a predominantly white neighborhood and it is very hard finding things that work for my hair. So, I have to go to neighborhoods out of my way or shop online. And after finding out I bought conditioner that was mixed with bleach (clorox) from an online store that turned my hair into straw/ash it can be very frustrating. So I had to cut off my hair about 5 inches and I'm re-growing it. I had to file a claim with the business bureau and everything. But, thank god for reviews or I wouldn't know where to shop or who to trust these days.
Great moisturizer for hair and skin!

I love this product It is a great moisturizer for my hair as well as my skin. The smell is subtle but pleasing. I leave it in my hair overnight and it easily washes out in the morning. It also keeps my skin soft. It works very well for dry cracked heels. I just bought 2 more jars. I have not cooked with it!

ordered this for face moisturizer as my skin is quite sensitive. I was looking for a natural and inexpensive product and this sounded like a good thing to try. I have been very happy with it. A small bit on my face after showering feels wonderful. I am also trying it on fungused toenails as supposedly it has some antibacterial properties. Too soon to know yet if that works.

Also, it smells heavenly. Love it!
This is an awesome product

I only cook with this coconut oil. It's wonderful and adds a delightful taste to veges. I fry eggs in it. I fry steaks in it. I saute veges in it. It's yummy and keeps perfectly on your kitchen counter. It does not have to be refrigerated. I will not be without this stuff in my kitchen.
Great healthy moisturizer

Reviewer: dog fan,
I ordered this after having a facial where they used a mixture of almond oil, coconut oil and tamanu oil. My skin felt so wonderful, I had to try it for myself! She recommended just getting coconut oil. I actually really like that it solidifies so that I can just rub a little in my palms to heat it and apply it to my face & body. It does feel a bit greasy at first, but absorbs nicely and my skin has never felt or looked better. (I'm also using diluted apple cider vinegar as an astringent.)

Now I need to try some of the other uses for coconut oil!
great product

I love this stuff. I use it to keep my skin soft and smooth. It smells incredible. It doesn't leave an icky residue on my skin like other skin softeners do. It has a wonderful, subtle flavor.
Makes everything taste good...

You can a little of this with just about anything you bake. I add this to my baked banana bread and it's great. I've used it on my hair also, I remember using pure coconut oil when I was a little girl in my home country as a conditioner and hair softener. This is a good price as I've seen it for a lot more in our local stores.
This is the stuff!

I am a total coconut oil convert. I may even be a zealot. My daughter has very dry type 3C-4A hair, and since I started using the coconut oil on her hair, it has become much more supple and shiny. Less frizz in the mornings, easier to braid and comb, etc. I have thrown out all the traditional mainstream haircare products in favor of this. They don't even compare.

Moreover, I use it as a body/facial moisturizer and it is magnificent. A little goes a long way and my skin stays smooth all day. Love it.
Can't Do Without It

I recently bought this product after hearing great reviews on it and I can say that I definitely agree. I use this on my hair exclusively, I am an African-American and have natural hair. I usually just "seal" my hair with this, which it's good for, but it can be greasy. I don't really know how to combat that, but it doesn't really have too much of a smell either, which is good b/c I don't know how I feel about the smell of coconut. The amount is quite enough for the price, but depending on how much you use it may not last as long as it looks like it will. Mine probably won't last too long, but I will definitely buy again.

Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/RM0FGPYCKKRLN Some say the COCONUT palm is the Tree of Life. They say Life is honored and perpetuated through its meat, its water, its oil, its presence.

In my opinion, EVAGold, and the Nutiva brand of coconut oil shown in the video, are among the highest qualities available, of life healing offerings from this sacred gift of a tree. I had sensed this cold pressed oil's uncanny value as soon as I saw a picture of a jar of EVAGold on Swanson's product list on Amazon. I had come to trust Swanson [as much as I continue to trust Amazon] from purchases of several types of magnesium supplements including Magnesium Oil 8 fl oz Spray.

Reading Bruce Fife's The COCONUT OIL MIRACLE, provided necessary information for working with this fruit. Reading that book also clarified my previous belief in the healing nutrition in coconut oil, and in these brands' production purity [other excellent brands are also available; these two are just the ones I've used successfully so far]. My experience of using this type of cold pressed, virgin coconut oil for only 24 hours had shown results which made me feel blessed!

I've been slowly and steadily rectifying a serious magnesium deficiency while searching for what felt like a missing catalyst or synergistic essence which would cause magnesium supplementation to be accepted by the body, and then seated into the cellular level of life enhancing operations. Dr. Carolyn Dean's book, The MAGNESIUM MIRACLE is an excellent guide to Magnesium's magic in healing, normalizing, and strengthening the embodied human soul. I've been thinking that coconut, in its several forms of use, could work as a catalyst for magnesium, while magnesium works as a catalyst for all other nutrients, including coconut oil, to function correctly. What a team!!

To understand the vital message in what I'm trying to say here, please be cajoled or even coerced (jokingly) into reading some of my Amazon.com reviews on magnesium products and the two books linked above... as a start on a journey to understanding, appreciating, and relishing LIFE. Other great Magnesium and Coconut books and products are available, easily found using search capacities.

According to some experts, the most important thing to know about oils, fats, and coconut products is that they should be gently, minimally, and carefully processed by cold pressing, preferably labeled ANH (absolutely no heat used in processing); the reasons for this are detailed in Fife's book.

Also according to some experts, the most important thing to know about magnesium is that it needs to be held in highest priority and percentage in the minerals taken into the body, and that certain foods, additives, and supplements can defeat bio-availability of magnesium. Especially calcium needs to be taken in much lower amounts than magnesium, and in the current food marketplace and general eating habits; calcium is usually assimilated in large quantities, causing illnesses related to calcification or deposits, and contributing to magnesium deficiency. This situation is detailed in Dr. Dean's book.

My main concern with coconut usage for persons like me who are severely deficient in magnesium is that most offerings of coconut I'm aware of hold more potassium than magnesium, which could upset the balance and primary necessity of magnesium.

In my non-professional opinion magnesium is the INDEX nutritional substance; the A-Priori for Life.

Maybe even the Tree of Life needs magnesium as its priority nutrient...

With adequate magnesium held within the cell structures... [some experts say cells need to retain 10,000 times more magnesium than any other mineral]... the body can adequately and correctly utilize other minerals and necessary nutrients, in order to live strong and disease free. [See my review of Dr. Dean's book.]

Maybe magnesium seats life, coconut is the cozy catalyst, and taste buds rule!

Nutiva Organic Extra Virgin Coconut Oil, 15-Ounce Tubs (Pack of 2) [This is the product used in the video here. I like this product very much. It came very quickly and was the actual coconut oil(not the gel tablets). I was using it as a hair conditioner but it is edible and can be used as a cooking oil and as an anti-fungal treatment. It tasted sweet and the container was generous. Overall, I am happy with the product and the pricing.

So I started using this the day I received it in the mail (fast shipping btw) and I'm glad I made the purchase. I use this 1-2 times a day when I have a smoothie, sometimes as a little spread on my toast, and for my skin. I have very sensitive skin (on my face and back) so I tend to use it everywhere else on my body.

In regards to the supplement, it does in fact suppress your appetite, which will than lead to smaller portion control if you were ever to stop using this as a supplement.

My next step would be to use it for a replacement of cooking oil but hopefully the meat won't have that taste of coconut...I love coconut but not to that extent.

I bought this and I could not recall why. When I use it for cooking it makes the food taste like coconut. So cannot see using it a lot. I love coconut but not on quesadias. Instead I ordered coconut pills.
It has good and bad points

This "oil" is supposed to be a healthy oil with many uses, that's the GOOD. What I don't like about it is the packaging. Once it solidifies, it's a greasy mess to remove from the container. Making it in a "squeeze bottle" would make it MUCH easier to use, hence I'd get more use from it!
