| My son unfortunately was unable to breastfeed and could not tolerate any other formula out there. This may be expensive, but it has been worth every penny. It has solved his bellyaches and has helped tremendously with his colic symptoms. My husband and I noticed a huge difference in our son's behavior after just one bottle. We got our calm, good-natured baby back because of this formula :) |

My daughter used Alimentum and it stopped her colic due to acid reflux. I want to spread the word that most insurance companies will completely cover the cost of hypoallergenic formula, either by reimbursing you what you've spent on it, or if you get it as a prescription through your pediatrician.
Many doctors don't know this, so they don't know to give a prescription for the formula. Call your insurance company today! |

| Okay... first I will give you my history, my daughter was born at 36 weeks and put on regular Similac Advance, she puked like a marathon puker at the hospital before they put her on the Similac Sensitive (lactose free) that helped. At about 2 weeks, vomitting again, but only about once or twice a day. It was pretty projectile and I worried about the anatomy of her digestive system. After an upper GI we learned that all was well, but that she did have reflux. After the reglan, she was still vomitting pretty agressively so I mentioned the formula. My dr. agreed that trying Alimentum would be a good thing - well, she is now almost 4 months and NO MORE PROJECTILE VOMITTING!!! I am thrilled to not have to worry about that anymore. The formula is stinky, but oh well... my baby is comfy! Recently, my daughter has been getting hungry more often (still drinking 4 - 5 oz every 4 hrs) and the dr suggested I try her on Similac Organic so that she can maybe be full enough to sleep thru the night. I am tempted but oh so scared!!! I know Alimentum is very thin and probably not filling her up, but it does her tummy good! I was very impressed with this product. |
Thank God for Alimentum!

At 3 wks old my son was colic. The doctor asked us to try Similac Alimentum for a couple of weeks to see if there was improvement. After seeing the price of course my first thoughts were IT BETTER WORK FOR THAT MUCH PER CAN! Well after about 2 days there was a drastic improvement with my son's temperament. He still gets a little fussy (what baby doesn't) but there are no more 5 hour screaming marathons until 1 AM!
The formula does not smell all that great but it is far less foamy when mixed compared to the original. Also, you can get great deals online to save money! i-medica.com sells the formula wholesale with free standard shipping. 132.90 for 6 16oz cans, (about $22 per can vs $28).
If your baby is just starting the Alimentum, really give it a good try before giving up!

| My child was born early and developed an allergy to similac advanced as soon as she got out of the NICU. We tried sensitive, we tried low iron, we tried soy (which also has this protein, so if your kid has that allergy it isn't helpful, nothing worked. She cried non stop at feeds. Was breaking out all over her face and well wouldn't poop that frequently. I was freaking out. She's our first. Finally, our doctor said go for this. We had no clue what it was. Well, after the first feed, she was back to herself. What was once an underweight child is now a child my doctor keeps saying looks much bigger than her age. I am so thankful this product exists. Sign your relatives (I mean everyone you know up) for the similac club and use a $5 off coupon every time you buy this. I have found either the Pathmark club (which gives you $15 off for every 100 you spend) or buybuybaby with that coupon can end up being about $20 a bottle. I just wish the powder came in a bigger size. Don't worry, kids don't drink this formula forever. I am hoping she will grow out of it by 1. Either way, it's a life saver. |
Loved it!

After 3 weeks of using similac advance, the one that was given from the hospital, my son broke out in rashes and diarrhea one after another. He cried all the time and had very painful gas. He's allergic to Sensitive and Soy based. So I gave him this and it worked magically! Within 24 hours his rashs cleared up and diarrhea was gone. Limited his bowel movement to once or sometimes twice a day. I love this product, yes it smells really bad and very pricey. But he is happy with it. Oh I bought his formula from www.mzmed.com Much cheaper than most website I know of. Check it out......a can of 16oz is less than 20 bucks.

Great for sensitive tummies!

This formula works wonders! My son went through 4 different formulas before we found this life saver! It is broken down enough so it is easy for even the most sensitive tummies to digest. It is great for babies with colic or allergies to the protein in milk.
The downfalls to this formula are:
-Similac only makes the powder formula in the 16oz can which means you go through it faster and have to buy either multiple cans or keep running to the store once a week for it.
-Also it is a bit on the expensive side. It is more expensive than the regular formula and usually runs anywhere from 25-26.50 a can.
-It is very stinky and very sticky.
Although it has a few cons about it, if you have a baby with a sensitive digestive system this is definitely the best formula on the market! Our son is a happy camper thanks to Similac Alimentum!.

Lifesaver for parents and babies

Yes, it smells bad.
No, it doesnt taste bad. I licked my hand when i spilled it once and it was not nearly as bad as you would think due to the smell.
Yes it is extremely expensive, but you know what? It WORKS!
When you are up nightly due to a screaming unhappy child, or worse, when you see your child suffering with an allergic reaction or blood in their stool or other awful side effects of a milk allergy or intolerance you are willing to pay any amount of money to make sure your baby is happy and to in turn get some sleep as well.
This stuff works, and it is much cheaper then the next option of of Neocate or other amino acid based formulas.
Even if your child doesnt have a diagnosed milk allergy, but is extra gassy, colicky, or constipated, give this a try.
We started using this because my DD would get severe consitipation on ANY milk based formula. Even now at 10 months, when we tried again with regular formula we have the same problem, so back to alimentum we went.
I really do not care about the price or the smell because the alternative is either having a malnourished child or one that is in pain, both alternatives are much more expensive to me.
Before the breastfeeding Natzis get on my case- i know breast is an alternative BUT- not everyone chooses to breastfeed and not all babies do well on breastmilk. |

| My daughter was born at 37 weeks, and was not able to be breastfed. We tried Good start, similac sensitive, enfamil gentlease... none of which helped her to be more content with her feedings. Within days of starting her on formula out of the hospital, she began to get eczema and it never went away (now we know it was an allergy), but ever since starting Alimentum, it has subsided and I can see my child's face! After just one feeding, she no longer had the belly aches, screaming fits and uncomfortable bowel movements.. this formula is truly a miracle worker for us, at 3 months of age, I am now finally able to truly enjoy my child! |
Allimentum/good product for food allergies/colic

| The formula itself is great if your baby needs it for food allergy or colic. It does cause my daughter to have loose stools but it is the only negative that I have encountered (besides the cost). I ordered this on amazon which shipped from ABCbabyformula. I ordered over a weekend and received the product three days later--it was great! |

GREAT FOR BABY WITH DAIRY AND SOY ALLERGY!

| My son was born full term and I decided from the beginning to only breastfeed him and 3 weeks later he was waking up constantly, crying, had explosive gas and liquid diarrhea that would leak all over and stink. The doctor tested his stool and it was positive for blood and he still hadn't reached his birth weight. The doctor told me he had a dairy/soy allergy and to immediately start him on the alimentum before he got worse and within a day he was SOOOO much better. All of his syptoms are gone and he gained over a pound in one week! After 2 months of being on this formula he is completely normal. The formula is VERY expensive and it does smell bad and makes babys gas and burp smell nasty and it tends to stain clothing but thats no big deal compared to what he was going through. Best of all my insurance company "Empire" covers it!!! I pay nothing and they send me 12 cans of the formula every month which I never would have known if I didn't call! My baby has a documented dairy allergy and this is the only thing she can drink. We tried Nutramagin first and it was so bad she spit it out each time we tried. Since using this formula our days of belly aches and gas are over! Similac is a great company too if you ever have to contact them directly with a special request or concern. If your baby has a true intolerence to dairy or colic I highly recommend trying this product to see if it works for you!

| Our Daughter was always sick ie. ear infections, runny noses etc. on Soy Formula. We switched to this and we have had no problem a week later. FYI she loved the formula so much she still at 20 months wants to drink it as her everyday milk. Occasionaly we will give it to her as a treat now, but she drinks Rice Milk. Good luck!!!!!!!! |
So much cheaper!

| If you have to give your baby Alimentum, then you know how expensive it is. It took me until my daughter was almost 8 months old to realize how much cheaper it was to buy from Amazon... Buying one at a time from a store was up to $28/can. For $120 for six cans is around $21/can -- what a huge savings! Got to me quickly, and saved me cash. Can't ask for much more! |
Great for colicky babies

| Our daughter was experiencing terrible colic for a few weeks until we switched to this formula. After being on Alimentum for one full week, her disposition changed drastically. She was no longer as fussy/colicky all the time and was a much happier baby. She seems to really like this formula. Also, it does not bubble up when you shake it like Similac Sensitive does (what she was on before) so it's good for very gassy babies as well. The only downsides are: (1) the price, and (2) it smells awful when prepared and therefore so does everything else if your baby spits up a lot like ours does. But because she's doing so well, we're sticking with it! |
So far so good...=)

| my baby boy has acid reflux that causes colic, when i stopped breastfeeding him because of work issues, i tried the similac advanced, he was too gassy and won't stop crying, then because of WIC we started him with enfamil premium lipil which did the same to him, he pukes after an hour of feeding or he just pukes every after feeding. His pediatrician suggested we change his formula to enfamil gentlease for fussiness and gas, which, for some reason (w/ the help of zantac for infants) didn't do any good, he pukes like an ounce so i'm starting to worry that it's either he's got allergies or he's just having troubles digesting. Idid my research online and found similac alimentum, my husband started to feed him the alimentum last night and he noticed a difference, well it smells like bird food and it made our baby frown while drinking it but he looked more relaxed! today, he's just gonna cry if he's wet or hungry but so far he doesn't cry for 2-4 hrs. straight..what a relief! |
Had terrible effects on our daughter

This isn't one of those reviews where the person says "don't buy this," because clearly this works for a lot of people, but it had a terrible effect on our daughter.
Our daughter was 4 weeks old and what I'd call "half colic." She only screamed for about 2 hours out of every day and she was occasionally able to go for an or two at a time where she was awake and not crying. At the time she was on a breastmilk / part formula (Similac with iron) by order of the pediatrician because she was having trouble gaining weight. When we told the doc about how fussy she was, he recommended we try Similac Alimentum. Big mistake. Within 12 hours of going on it, our daughter began spitting up the formula like she was a fountain. She stopped having bowel movements, began crying for 3-4 hours straight, and couldn't sleep despite the fact she was clearly exhausted. To say this stuff was disastrous would be an understatement. We're back on breastmilk and just counting ourselves lucky that we can have only 2 hours of crying. |
Smells like bird food, my son hated it

This is the first time I write a review but I feel strongly about this product so I want to share my experience with you.
My son is allergic to dairy. We had to try with an hypoallergenic formula rather than the regular one.
As soon as I opened the can, my whole apartment started to smell like this powder. This is not the first time I've seen formula so I knew this was stronger than the usual. I checked the expiration date but it was fine. I tried to give the formula to my son, but his face was worth a million words, he hated it!
I wonder if all the hypoallergenic formulas are so strong on the smell. I know regular formulas aren't.
We will have to try with another hypoallergenic formula or go with soy based... |
